Supporting new, local and independent businesses

Give Lincoln’s new businesses a fighting start

LoveLincoln provides free coverage to new businesses who have been trading less than 12 months to give them a helping hand to find their audience, their customers and their place in Lincoln.

This feature is called ‘New & Notable’ here’s an example that we did for Salt & Fettle

New & Notable

Salt & Fettle

"The art of better eating. Inside Lincoln’s Barbican Creative Hub. Composed food. Beautiful space. No rush."

Salt & Fettle

When we hear there's a new café opening in Lincoln we are always hoping that there's going to be something a little bit different, something a touch unique that will help it stand out from the background.

With Salt & Fettle they didn't achieve that with gimmicks or novelty, but with a commitment to curating a space, a menu and a vibe that has it elevated above the crowd.

Situated inside the simply stunning Victorian building of the Barbican Creative Hub that sits opposite Lincoln train station, Salt & Fettle is surrounded by creatives working in their studios, developing ideas into works of art and cultivating an atmosphere that each artist feeds from and adds to. And it's this environment that we think has marinated its way into the fabric of Salt & Fettle.

The combination of heritage architectural features and clean modern design creates a perfect blank canvas for the real art, which is the fresh seasonal menu, with a philosophy of using whole ingredients sourced as locally as possible. In their own words: "Nothing fried, nothing rushed. Everything made with care."

Make no mistake, Salt & Fettle isn't a café oblivious to its surroundings. It's every bit a part of the creative talent, contributing to the ecosystem and inspiring its customers. The art of better eating isn't just a tagline; it's apparent on every plate. Yet there's no hint of pretentiousness; quite the opposite: the laid-back, calming atmosphere instantly makes you feel welcome.

With the colder autumnal days ahead, this has to be a top choice as a sanctuary from the cold and rain before grabbing a train or heading home. Or even a perfect location to catch up on some work with the free wi-fi. Where you too could benefit from the creative inspiration oozing from the building.

Where a business needs the most support is during the time it has the most obstacles to overcome whilst finding its feet. One of the largest costs relative to income is when a business has to pay to advertise itself before it’s even got any customers.

And the independents who make Lincoln, Lincoln

Lincoln has an unusually high number of independent retailers compared with chains. That’s worth celebrating, but they don’t have national budgets behind them, so we profile them for free in Lincoln Originals.

LoveLincoln is committed to supporting first year businesses without asking for an advertising budget in return. But to do this we need support from established businesses who care about helping the local economy to flourish.

Our Founding Partner package is a pledge from local businesses that states you want to see positive changes in the city and you’re prepared to contribute to support that journey.

In return for this one-off payment, your business will forever be able to claim you were there at the start, you believed in a better way of doing things; and every young business that gets an audience for free will have you to thank for enabling the platform to exist to deliver it.

Of course there’s also an array of benefits for you as a Founding Partner too.

Helping Lincoln to grow its potential

A city that doesn’t grow, stagnates.

A mosaic of Lincoln: its streets, food, events and landmarks, with the LoveLincoln heart at its centre.

LoveLincoln exists to give the city a front page to be proud of. Here’s what that means in practice.

  1. Nurture young talent

Lincoln is home to over 15,000 higher education students, yet a large proportion move away upon graduation, draining the city of the next generation of degree-educated professionals. We promote the reasons to stay and start their career in the city.

  2. Positivity attracts visitors

Tourism is worth over £200m each year to the city, yet so little is done to attract visitors. By promoting the best of the city to the world, there will finally be a voice giving tourists a reason to put Lincoln on their list.

  3. Boosting the local economy

Local independent businesses with local customers mean that the pounds earned locally are spent locally, boosting the local economy in the process. Supporting a buoyant city centre at the heart of the community.

LoveLincoln will always be free to read, which means to achieve our aims we rely on businesses to support the value that we create. Founding Partners are there from the start, building the front page of the city.
